All Things Must Pass – George Harrison

After his shocking departure from The Beatles in 1970, George Harrison compiled songs that had previously been rejected by Paul McCartney and John Lennon to create All Things Must Pass. The album touches on Harrison’s spirituality, love, and gripes about his former bandmates.

How I Found This Album

I have always been an old soul, so when I was about 12 or 13, it was only a matter of time for me to discover The Beatles. As I listened to them and learned more about them, I found myself attuned to George Harrison’s songs and personality more than John or Paul (and especially Ringo). My first experience with listening to All Things Must Pass was when I heard My Sweet Lord for the first time. I am not particularly religious, but when I heard the song, I was so overcome with emotion that I couldn’t help but tear up. I didn’t cry because it made me begin to revere a god, but because it so beautifully captured the feeling of being entirely devoted to anything.

Immediately after replaying the album multiple times, I went to a record store and begged the owner to find me a copy of All Things Must Pass. He gave me a beat up, original pressing from the back of the store, and I have cherished it every day since. This album has definitely saved me from some very dark times.
